Yesterday evening Me and Christian went to the beach here in Rio for the first time since we arrived (Dec 23rd). It was nice. I worked on a mermaid painting, then went into the water until a storm came. We packed up, and fought traffic to get home. We had hoped to have a nice meal at the Outback Steakhouse (Christian's Favorite restraunt), but we didn't get home in time to change our clothes and get there. It was ordered by his Doctor that he must stop all eating and drinking, basically fast from 8:00 pm, until his surgery that started at about 8 this morning. He's in surgery now, and I'm praying that it will all go well, which I'm pretty sure it will. I plan to finish that Mermaid painting that I worked on at the beach today why he's away. It'll make some child's room somewhere very bright and happy. I'll post it on the gallery when it is finished.
I was thinking about how different my work is from 2 years ago. I found out somewhere along the way from 2007 to 2009 that I'm more of a folk artist than just another abstract artist. I found a picture of a painting painted when we were in Hawaii that I actually like from the time period from when I was painting only abstract compositions. It's still a bit "folky" but I just couldn't put that together back then. I think my work is very 'human' and personal. There's something a bit too intimate about it to be considered "high" art. Some times I think that the less heart you put into a painting, the more "modern" and "upscale" it tends to be. Blah, that's boring:)

Wow! 2010. It'll take me a while to get used to saying 2010. I thought that this date only existed in science fiction movies. Where's my jet-pack? Anywho, I am in Rio at the moment. Me and Christian where supposed to be leaving Jan 18th, but have changed plans and are now leaving sometime in late Feburary. I've painted quite a bit here, mostly to sale in the US but one very large painting for my mother inlaw. It's 40x40 inches and looks great in her diningroom (or atleast it will when it gets hung properly). All is well, except that I am missing family back home. The best one I've done so far here in Rio, you can see more in the 2010 gallery.
